A Student's Perspective on Studying Chinese in Taiwan
(
Amy Chen - 2001 )
My name is Amy Chen. I was studying at Mandarin Training Center with most of the other
Stanford students, and I just came back to the states a few weeks ago. I am now living in the Sunset District in San Francisco. I feel like my
Chinese skills--both speaking and reading/writing--improved quite a lot this summer, in part because I was in an environment in which I had to
actively use all the skills, but now that I am back in the U.S. I can already feel my Chinese skills beginning to deteriorate.
Right now I am busy applying for law school, but in the meantime I am also
looking for some part-time work where I might be able to use/practice my Chinese, and also hopefully do
some good work for Taiwan. I have only been back from Taiwan for a few weeks, but I already miss the place and the people very much.
Best to you,
Amy in San Francisco
