TAIWAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
I. Purpose:
The Taiwan Scholarship Program is to encourage outstanding
international students to undertake degree programs in Taiwan. It
provides study opportunities for a wide range of disciplines at Taiwan's
universities and colleges. This program also aims to promote friendship between the
United States and the Republic
of China(Taiwan), as well as provide more
opportunities to increase academic and educational links
for both countries' institutions of higher learning.
Ultimately it will develop outstanding professionals and experts to meet the needs of the global society.
II. Types of Scholarship and Values:
a. Undergraduate Scholarship:
A monthly stipend of NT$25,000 (approximately US$770)
b. Master's Scholarship:
A
monthly stipend of NT$30,000
c. Doctoral Scholarship:
A
monthly stipend of NT$30,000
d. Pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program(LEP):
A monthly stipend of NT$25,000
III. Duration of Award:
a. Undergraduate program: maximum 4 years
b. Master's program: maximum 2 years
c. Doctoral program: maximum 3 years
d. LEP: maximum 1 year
(N.B. The Taiwan Scholarship Program is mainly for degree studies; the
LEP study is
optional. Those who study LEP in the first year must
undertake a degree program from the second year on,
so as to be continuously awarded).
IV. Award Period:
From
September 1, 2010,
to the end of the specific scholarship
type(totally five years
in
maximum)
V. Number of Award: 3
VI. Eligibility: An applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
a. Be a high school graduate or above, have
an excellent academic
performance in his/her most recent formal
educational study
experience, be of good moral character and does not have any
criminal records.
b. Is not an R.O.C. (Taiwan) national.
c. Does not have the status of being an overseas compatriot student.
d. Has never enrolled at any educational institution in
Taiwan for the same level of degree
or LEP that he/she
plans to matriculate at.
e. Is not an exchange student in accordance with any agreement of
cooperation between an international
university/college and an
educational institute in
Taiwan, at the time of receiving a
Taiwan Scholarship.
f. Has never received the scholarship to undertake any degree program
or language study within the total award
period of 5 years.
g. Does not have any revocation record regarding the Taiwan Scholarship
Program nor from the Ministry of
Education's Huayu
(Mandarin) Enrichment
Scholarship Program.
h. Is not a recipient of any other scholarship or subsidy offered by
the
Taiwan
government or from any other
educational institutions in
Taiwan.
VII. Application Deadline: February
1 ~ March 31, 2010

VIII. Required Documents:
a. A completed application form.
b. Photocopy of passport or other
certificate of nationality.
c. Photocopy of the highest-level
diploma and a complete grade transcript.
(N.B. these documents
must be authenticated by one of Taiwan's overseas
representative
offices if issued by international educational
institutions).
d.
Photocopy of applications to both the Mandarin training centre as well
as the next-stage
university/college. The exact academic year(s) that applicants would like
to be enrolled full-time
at these two institutions must be clearly specified. There must also
be no break in studies between
the two programs.
e. Photocopy of a certificate
proving acceptable levels of English or Chinese language
proficiency, depending on
which language will be used for instruction.
(N.B. This document is not required for LEP Scholarship
applicants. English-speaking applicants who will
study a degree program taught in English, do not need
to submit this document either).
f. A completed "Terms of Agreement" for the Taiwan
Scholarship.
