Ministry of Education Huayu Enrichment Scholarship

I. Purpose:

The Scholarship is sponsored and established by the Ministry of Education, Republic of China (Taiwan). It provides opportunities to study Mandarin Chinese Language and learn about Taiwan's culture at university- or college-affiliated Mandarin training centers in Taiwan. Through this study program, the Scholarship also aims to promote friendship and opportunities of educational exchange between the R.O.C. (Taiwan) and the United States.

II. Scholarship Period: September 1st, 2011August 31st, 2012

III. Value of Scholarship: The monthly stipend is NT$25,000 (approximately US$833)

IV. Duration of Award: Six months

V. Number of Award: 4

VI. Eligibility: An applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Is 18 years of age or older, a high school graduate or above.
  2. Has excellent academic performance and is of good moral character.
  3. Is a U.S. citizen and does not hold the Republic of China (Taiwan) nationality.
  4. Does not have the status of being an overseas compatriot student.
  5. Is not currently a registered student at a Mandarin training center, and has never been a degree-seeking student at any university or college in Taiwan.
  6. Is not an exchange student in accordance with an agreement of cooperation between an international university/college and an educational institute in Taiwan, at the time of receiving a HES.
  7. Has never received an award either under this scholarship program nor the Taiwan Scholarship Program.
  8. Is not a recipient of any other scholarship or subsidy offered by the Taiwan government or any other educational institutions in Taiwan.

VII. Application Deadline: March 31st, 2011 (by postmark)

VIII. Application Documents:

a. One completed Application Form;
b. One photocopy of the passport or other nationality certificates;
c. One completed sheet of the "Scholarship Terms of Agreement";
d. One photocopy of the highest-level diploma and of a complete grade transcript;

e. Proof of application for admission to Taiwan's Mandarin training centers affiliated with universities/colleges;
f. Two reference letters;
